Why perfectionism and maximalism suck

02 Manage Habits Course. Before we move on to the process of defining your goals and forming habits to support them, I want to talk about what can really nullify your efforts. This was a big obstacle for me in the past. I'm talking about perfectionism and maximalism.

Why perfectionism and maximalism suck

This is the second post in a mini-course on how to learn to manage for easy goal achievement, and why it's important for you to know about this Manage Habits Course

Perfectionism

Perfectionism is the feeling that you have to do everything right the first time or that you have to complete this course instantly and master the skill of habit formation perfectly. Don't do that. It will negate your efforts and rob you of motivation.

To make everything work out well and for you to successfully complete this course - drive your inner perfectionist away. I give you permission to take the course at a pace that's comfortable for you. Do it in a way that feels good to you.

At the beginning, we're all enthusiastic and charged up, but gradually we start to fade and abandon the course a third or halfway through, depending on its length.

So let's agree - this course is really very important for you because it will create the foundation for forming habits, which in turn will lead you to success. Once again - willpower alone won't get you far. It's equivalent to constant self-abuse. And we love ourselves. Habits will guide you along a comfortable path.

Maximalism

Highly effective people sometimes have a skew - maximalism. Either you've accomplished everything, or you're worthless and don't deserve a crust of bread. Either you've dedicated two hours to your project every day, or you should go off to the mines.
